Strategically positioned along the Mediterranean coast, Alanya is situated on a small peninsula with the Taurus Mountains stretching to its north. Throughout history, it served as an მნიშვნელოვანი fortress for empires such as the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman. During the Seljuk period, under the rule of Alaeddin Keykubad I, the region gained significant geopolitical importance. Landmarks such as Red Tower (Alanya), the shipyard, and Alanya Castle were built during this era and remain iconic symbols of the city today.
The region experiences a typical Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers. Tourism holds a significant place in the local economy, accounting for around 9% of Türkiye’s tourism share, while foreign property purchases in the area reach approximately 30%. Tourism began to develop rapidly after the 1950s, becoming the leading economic sector and contributing to population growth. Thanks to its warm climate, Alanya is highly suitable for various sports and cultural activities.
